The association believes Kuester’s experience in building high‑performing teams and aligning commercial, supply‑chain and operational strategies made her the preferred candidate to guide SNAC through a period of industry change and opportunity.

USA – SNAC International, the leading trade association for the snack food manufacturing industry, has appointed Cindy Kuester as its new president and chief executive officer (CEO), effective February 9, 2026.
Kuester, currently with Snak King, brings over 25 years of food industry experience, including expertise in building high-performing teams, driving profitability, and aligning sales and operations strategies.
She succeeds Christine Cochran, who departed late last year to lead the National Automatic Merchandising Association, following an interim period managed by Kelly Knowles.
SNAC International, headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, represents snack producers and suppliers through advocacy, education, and networking, including events such as SNAXPO.
Kuester’s appointment aligns with the group’s focus on innovation amid challenges like regulatory pressures, supply chain disruptions, and consumer shifts toward healthier snacks.
Phil Gusmano, chair of SNAC International and vice president at Better Made Snack Foods, praised Kuester’s leadership credentials and said the board expects her to strengthen SNAC’s voice with policymakers, expand member services, and enhance the association’s signature events and technical programming.
“Cindy’s proven leadership and deep understanding of the snack industry make her the ideal choice to lead SNAC International into the future,” said Phil Gusmano, SNAC chair and VP of Better Made Snack Foods.
“Her track record of success and commitment to collaboration will strengthen our ability to serve members and advance the industry.”
With the US snack market valued at over US$50 billion and growing at 4% annually, Kuester aims to amplify SNAC’s voice on issues such as sustainable packaging, labour shortages, and nutrition labelling.
Her background at Snak King, a major salty snack producer, positions her to foster collaboration between manufacturers and suppliers.
Kelly Knowles will continue as senior advisor for advocacy, ensuring continuity.
This leadership transition follows SNAC’s 2025 board refresh, with officers like Tim Bateman of Calbee America supporting expanded initiatives.
Members anticipate that her strategies will sustain SNAC’s momentum, building on Cochran’s tenure in strategic planning and event revitalisation.
The snack sector, encompassing chips, nuts, and extruded products, positions the association to align its executive leadership with the board’s strategic objectives.
Kuester declared, “I look forward to partnering with our members to advance innovation, elevate our voice, and position the snack industry for continued growth and success.”
