Origin Agritech launches full-scale seed processing facility to meet rising corn seed demand

The facility began full-scale seed processing operations on August 21, coinciding with a critical phase in China’s corn planting calendar.

CHINA – Origin Agritech Ltd., a leading Chinese agricultural technology company, has commenced full-scale operations at its seed production and processing facility in Xinjiang.

According to the company’s August 25 announcement, the facility began full-scale seed processing operations on August 21, 2025, for the 2025 season, the move coinciding with a critical phase in China’s corn planting calendar, when timely seed deployment is essential.

The Xinjiang facility is situated in one of China’s foremost corn seed production zones, leveraging the region’s unique solar thermal resources and favorable climatic conditions ideal for producing premium seeds. These environmental advantages help Origin maintain rigorous quality while potentially reducing energy costs for processing operations.

Seeds are the semiconductor chips of agriculture, and the processing stage is absolutely critical,” said Weibin Yan, chief executive officer of Origin Agritech.

“Through our advanced seed processing equipment and strict quality management systems, we ensure that every seed meets optimal standards, providing farmers with the foundation for successful harvests,” he added.

The Xinjiang base features a state-of-the-art, fully automated production line that seamlessly integrates key processes including cleaning, drying, threshing, precision sorting, coating, and packaging.

Notably, the facility’s seed coating technology provides vital protection against diseases and pests during early growth phases, fostering uniform emergence and strong seedling development to ensure consistent high yields. Real-time monitoring systems further oversee drying operations, maintaining ideal moisture levels and seed viability, which underscores Origin’s dedication to delivering reliable products to its extensive distribution network.

Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Beijing, Origin Agritech (NASDAQ: SEED) has established itself as a leader in crop seed breeding and genetic improvement, becoming the first company to receive a Bio-Safety Certificate for transgenic corn from China’s Ministry of Agriculture.

The firm maintains a robust pipeline of biotechnology innovations, including traits for glyphosate tolerance and pest resistance. Under Yan’s leadership, appointed as CEO in August 2024, with Dr. Gengchen Han continuing as Chairman, the company has pursued aggressive growth strategies.

Recent milestones include a 24.6% revenue increase in fiscal year 2024, driven by advancements in hybrid seeds and GMO development, as well as the anticipated commercialization of gene-edited corn within the next 1-2 years.

In December 2024, Origin hosted a successful R&D and business management conference to outline its 2025 strategy, emphasizing internationalization and leadership in China’s seed industry.
