King’s Hawaiian commits US$54M to Georgia expansion

A new manufacturing line is set to be installed at the 150,000 square-foot Oakwood South Industrial Park facility.

USA – King’s Hawaiian, a brand known for its Hawaiian-style sweet bread and other baked goods, has announced its investment of US$54 m to expand its plant in Oakwood, Georgia.

The investment underscores the company’s enduring commitment to the region and its growing presence in the United States’ food production sector.

The details of the investment were shared last week through an official announcement from Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.

This new manufacturing line is set to be installed at the 150,000-square-foot Oakwood South Industrial Park facility.

Additionally, as part of a development initiative, the project is expected to generate 135 new jobs, with hiring focused on roles in management, maintenance, food safety, and quality control.

“This expansion represents a major milestone in our journey, and we are thrilled to continue growing our ohana in Hall County. For 15 years, Georgia has been an essential part of our success,” said Mark Taira, the CEO of the family-owned King’s Hawaiian business.

Operations for the new production line are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with plans to introduce additional flavors of King’s Hawaiian Pretzel Bites.

King’s Hawaiian, established in 1950 by the Taira family in Hilo, Hawaii, is now a member of the Irresistible Foods Group (IFG), alongside brands like Grillo’s Pickles.

Since expanding operations to Georgia in 2010, the iconic sweet roll producer has reportedly created over 800 jobs statewide, according to official government remarks.

“For nearly 15 years, King’s Hawaiian has proven to be an incredible partner in creating quality jobs in northeast Georgia, and we look forward to even more years of great success for them in Hall County,” added Kemp.

“Expansions like these are an important part of our economic development work, helping create further opportunities in growing communities.”

As Georgia continues to attract top-tier food manufacturers, King’s Hawaiian’s latest investment reinforces the state’s reputation as a hub for innovation, workforce development, and community-driven growth.

With this expansion, the company is not only scaling its production but also deepening its legacy in the state of Georgia, also known as the Peach State.
