UKRAINE – Kernel, one of Ukraine’s largest agribusiness firms, has successfully exported 5.4 million tonnes of grain in the latest fiscal year, reaffirming its role as a key player in global grain supply chains despite ongoing geopolitical and logistical challenges.
The company’s performance underscores the resilience of Ukraine’s agricultural sector, which continues to operate under the strain of war, disrupted trade routes, and fluctuating commodity prices.
The exported volume includes a mix of wheat, corn, and barley, with shipments primarily directed toward European, Middle Eastern, and North African markets.
Kernel leveraged its extensive infrastructure network, including inland silos, rail logistics, and port terminals, to maintain throughput efficiency and meet international demand.
The company’s export strategy also benefited from strategic partnerships and third-party facilities, allowing it to navigate bottlenecks and maintain delivery schedules.
The company’s significant logistics capabilities were highlighted by the 36% increase in total transshipment volumes through Kernel’s own infrastructure, rising to 9.13 million tonnes in 2025 compared to 6.7 million tonnes the year before.
This surge was driven mainly by higher exports of edible oils and increased transshipment volumes for partner companies.
Kernel’s leadership in the sunflower oil market is evident, with the company processing 3.5 million tonnes of oilseeds during the fiscal year, marking an 8% increase from the prior year.
The flexible sourcing of various oilseeds such as sunflower seeds, soybeans, and rapeseed supported this growth.
In the fourth quarter of FY2025, Kernel processed 952,000 tonnes of oilseeds, which was a 13% increase from the previous quarter and on par with the prior year.
Meanwhile, grain exports in the same quarter declined by 38% compared to the preceding quarter, totaling 984,000 tonnes due to the tightening domestic grain supply as the season ended.
Despite fluctuations in quarterly volumes, Kernel’s strategic use of its export terminals and infrastructure has enabled the company to maintain consistent export volumes overall.
The terminals handled a total of 9.1 million tonnes of products during the fiscal year, with grain making up 61% of this throughput and edible oils accounting for 22%.
Kernel’s strong presence in the global agricultural market is reinforced by its extensive delivery network, reaching more than 60 countries worldwide.
The company’s consistent export volumes and increased transshipment underscore its critical role in supplying grain and oil products to international markets, supporting both food security and global trade.
With continued investment in infrastructure and innovation, Kernel is set to play a pivotal role in stabilizing food supply chains and supporting Ukraine’s economic recovery.
