These efforts contribute to environmental benefits that simultaneously reduce costs and improve farm sustainability.

USA – Kellanova, Walmart, and Indigo Ag have announced an expanded partnership to advance regenerative agriculture in Arkansas, focusing on supporting rice farmers in adopting climate-smart and sustainable farming practices.

This initiative builds on a four-year collaboration between Walmart and Indigo Ag, which has already helped rice farmers supply Walmart’s Great Value brand by reducing emissions by over 37,000 metric tons of CO₂e, conserving more than 11 billion gallons of water, and generating over US$900,000 in additional income for farmers.

Kellanova’s involvement broadens the program, creating new opportunities to improve farmer prosperity while advancing sustainable sourcing commitments and community welfare.

Through the Source by Indigo program, Arkansas rice farmers participating in the partnership gain access to resources, data, and technical support to boost profitability and resilience.

Farmers receive financial premiums for each pound of rice produced using regenerative methods, including improved water management, optimized fertilizer application, and crop rotation practices that enhance soil health and biodiversity.

These efforts contribute to environmental benefits that simultaneously reduce costs and improve farm sustainability.

Kellanova’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Janelle Meyers, highlighted the company’s commitment to a sustainable future through their Better Days™ Promise, which focuses on promoting sustainable practices and addressing climate change impacts.

Collaborating with Walmart and Indigo Ag leverages collective expertise to foster agricultural resilience that benefits farmers’ incomes, advances climate-smart practices, and drives long-term systemic change across the agricultural value chain.

Walmart’s senior director of strategic initiatives and sustainability, Mikel Hancock, emphasized the importance of this partnership in strengthening supply chains, supporting farmers, and enhancing environmental stewardship.

The collaboration has demonstrated measurable outcomes, including improved water conservation in Arkansas, better soil health, reduced emissions, and mutual cost savings for both companies through shared farmland sourcing.

The program also tracks progress directly with growers to ensure that ecological and economic gains reach farmers and their communities effectively.

Dean Banks, CEO of Indigo Ag, expressed pride in the partnership, emphasizing how collective efforts can generate prosperity by protecting natural resources and enhancing farmer livelihoods.

The allied efforts of Kellanova, Walmart, and Indigo Ag illustrate a scalable model for regenerative agriculture that provides farmers with tangible benefits while promoting sustainable sourcing practices and strengthening rural communities in Arkansas.
