JORDAN – Jordan’s olive oil production saw a remarkable increase of 43.2 percent in the 2024/2025 season, reaching 35,828 tonnes compared to 25,028 tonnes in the previous season.
According to the Department of Statistics (DoS), the production rate rose from 18 percent in the 2023/2024 season to 19.4 percent in the 2024/2025 season. This surge is attributed to favorable agricultural conditions and improved olive yields.
The total quantity of olives processed at presses across the kingdom reached 184,903 tonnes, marking a 33.1 percent increase from the 138,898 tonnes recorded in the previous season. The estimated value of the olive oil produced in 2024 is JD223.9 million (US$315.6M), based on average prices in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to the DoS price survey.
At the governorate level, Irbid led in olive processing and oil production, with 89,200 tonnes of olives pressed and 17,600 tonnes of oil produced.
In contrast, Aqaba recorded the lowest output, pressing only 1,300 tonnes of olives, yielding just 0.3 tonnes of olive oil. The total number of olive presses operating in Jordan stood at 148 in 2024, with 146 actively engaged in production.
Jordan seeks 120,000 MT wheat imports
Meanwhile, Jordan’s state grain buyer has issued an international tender to procure up to 120,000 metric tons of milling wheat from various sources.
The deadline for price offer submissions is set for March 11. The tender follows an unsuccessful attempt earlier in the week, where Jordan made no purchase in a previous bid for the same volume.
The wheat procurement aims to secure shipments in batches ranging from 50,000 to 60,000 tonnes, with possible delivery periods spanning from mid-May to the end of July.
In a separate move, Jordan has also issued a tender for up to 120,000 tons of animal feed barley, which is set to close on March 5. These procurement efforts highlight the kingdom’s ongoing strategy to ensure food security and meet local demand amid global market fluctuations.
