FlourWorld Museum names Abubakar Bakhresa to 2026 Milling Hall of Fame

The FlourWorld Museum selects East African business leader for his role in expanding milling capacity and improving access to flour.

TANZANIA – The FlourWorld Museum has confirmed Abubakar Bakhresa, founder of the Bakhresa Group, as its 2026 Milling Hall of Fame inductee.

The award recognises one global leader each year whose work has shaped the milling industry.

An independent jury made up of experts from industrial milling, grain trade, equipment manufacturing and related sectors reviewed candidates from across the world before selecting Bakhresa.

Volkmar Wywiol, founder of the museum, said the award highlights people whose work leaves a strong mark on the sector. “At the FlourWorld Museum, we bring the story of milling to life and honour those who shape its future. With the Milling Hall of Fame, we recognise outstanding personalities like Abubakar Bakhresa, whose work has a lasting impact on food security and the global milling industry,” he said.

Growth and regional impact

Bakhresa has led major growth at his company over the years. The group increased its daily milling capacity from 250 tonnes to more than 8,560 tonnes. This growth has helped improve access to flour across East and Central Africa.

The company now ranks among the region’s leading industrial groups, with operations that support food supply for millions of people.

Bakhresa has often spoken about his goal to make basic food products more accessible. “To deliver quality, affordable flour to every African home and business, creating lasting value for society,” he said.

Recognition and industry context

The museum will present Bakhresa with a bronze statuette during an official ceremony later this year. The event will bring together leaders from across the global milling sector.

The Milling Hall of Fame recognised Murli I. K. Dhar in 2025. He founded the Murli Dhar Group and played a key role in modernising flour milling in India. His work helped expand capacity and introduce new technologies in the sector.

According to the museum, his recognition showed how strong leadership can support food supply and industrial growth in South Asia.

The FlourWorld Museum continues to act as a global platform that connects industry players while celebrating key contributions to milling.
