CHS Inc. enhances fertilizer distribution with exclusive agreement at St. Louis Terminal

USACHS Inc., the largest farmer-owned cooperative in the United States, has entered into an exclusive services agreement with SCF Lewis and Clark Terminals LLC, a subsidiary of Ingram Barge Company.

This strategic partnership grants CHS exclusive rights to fertilizer throughput at Ingram’s Municipal River Terminal in St. Louis, Missouri, and includes provisions for fertilizer transport services.

The agreement is set to significantly bolster CHS’s capacity to deliver essential fertilizers; such as nitrogen, phosphate, potassium, and sulfur; to farmers during the critical spring growing season.

By leveraging the strategic location of the St. Louis Municipal River Terminal on the Mississippi River, CHS aims to enhance its supply chain efficiency, facilitating flexible rail shipments and increasing shipping capacity for in-season delivery.

We are better able to serve our owners and customers by establishing a new pathway to the global market. This new pathway improves the efficiency and flexibility of our supply chain, so our farmers can have access to needed inputs, particularly during the busy growing season,” stated Roger Baker, Vice President of Crop Nutrients at CHS

John Roberts, President and CEO of Ingram Barge Company, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration:

“Ingram is looking forward to partnering with CHS to help move vital nutrients to farmers for their crops. We’ve enjoyed a strong working relationship with CHS over the years, and this is a great opportunity for our companies to further grow that relationship.”

Ingram Barge Company, a leading carrier on America’s inland waterways, operates a fleet of approximately 150 towboats and 5,100 barges that transport a variety of products, including aggregates, grain, fertilizer, coal, ores, alloys, steel products, and chemicals.

This development comes as CHS continues to invest in strengthening its supply chains to provide value and enhance market access for U.S. growers.

CHS serves customers in 65 countries, providing crop inputs, market access, energy, and risk management solutions. With nearly 10,000 employees worldwide, CHS reported US$39 billion in revenues for fiscal year 2024, underlining its significant impact on the global agricultural industry.

Recently, the cooperative announced the acquisition of West Central Ag Services, a cooperative based in Ulen, Minnesota

The acquisition strengthens CHS’s footprint in the Upper Midwest, enhancing its ability to serve farmers in Minnesota and North Dakota while integrating West Central Ag Services’ operations into its global grain and agronomy supply chains.
