BIPC commissions third bread factory in Nigeria to boost local economy

The establishment of Gboko Bakery is expected to drive economic recovery by fostering small-scale production and expanding job creation, both direct and indirect.

NIGERIA – The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), a state-owned enterprise, has officially commissioned its third bread factory in Gboko, Benue State, Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in the state’s economic revitalization efforts.

This strategic move aligns with the state government’s directive to stimulate industrial growth, boost local production, and create employment opportunities.

The Gboko bakery follows two earlier BIPC bakeries, with a fourth plant planned for Otukpo to extend economic benefits across the region further.

Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, Group Managing Director of BIPC, emphasized that the new Gboko facility is well positioned to enhance commercial activities in the area, generate jobs, and stabilize the prices of essential commodities, including bread.

The project supports inclusive economic development and is part of Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s vision to transform Benue into a manufacturing hub.

The bakery will sell bread at an affordable price of ₦1,100 (US$0.76) per loaf to ensure accessibility for residents.

The commissioning ceremony underscored BIPC’s broader agenda of reviving dormant state enterprises, such as the Anune Tomato Factory, and reclaiming key industries, such as Dangote Cement, for local benefit.

The establishment of Gboko Bakery is expected to drive economic recovery by fostering small-scale production and expanding job creation, both direct and indirect.

BIPC’s initiative has generated hundreds of jobs so far, with 472 direct and 1,250 indirect employment opportunities recorded through its new subsidiaries.

The company is committed to supporting Benue farmers by procuring agricultural commodities and ensuring fair compensation as part of its value chain integration.

The bread factory in Gboko will soon contribute significantly to local economic growth, strengthening supply chains and providing affordable products to the community.

Additionally, the upcoming Otukpo bakery is anticipated to replicate these benefits in Benue South (Zone C), ensuring balanced development across the state.

In addition to bakery expansion, BIPC is advancing its industrial agenda with plans for a Food Basket Brewery, which is nearing production launch, and manufacturing ventures like nail production, positioning the company as a key player in the region’s industrialization.

This factory commissioning marks another milestone in BIPC’s drive to enhance local manufacturing capacities, create employment, stabilize food prices, and support Benue State’s economic transformation agenda under Governor Alia’s administration.
