The new electric trucks, powered entirely by certified renewable energy (REGOs), produce zero emissions during operation and are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 95 tonnes per truck annually.

UK – Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) has expanded its electric truck fleet for delivering flour across the United Kingdom, continuing its commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint in the food supply chain.
The expansion includes the addition of two 100% electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs) that will operate from ADM’s milling facility in Corby, Northamptonshire, to supply customers throughout the UK.
This initiative follows a successful trial and partnership with Voltloader, a UK-based electric logistics company focused on electrifying heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).
The new electric trucks, powered entirely by certified renewable energy (REGOs), produce zero emissions during operation and are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 95 tonnes per truck annually.
ADM has also installed high-speed electric vehicle charging infrastructure onsite at Corby to support efficient operation and reduce reliance on external charging networks.
Ashley Fuller, Managing Director of ADM Milling UK, highlighted that this move aligns with the UK’s Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator (ZEHID) scheme and reinforces ADM’s broader sustainability targets, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions and delivering low-carbon solutions throughout the food and agriculture value chain.
The company aims to cut Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2035, with the electric fleet expansion playing a critical role in achieving that goal.
The Voltloader electric trucks utilize Volvo FM Electric 4×2 tractor units equipped with a 540kWh battery capacity, paired with specially adapted Weightlifter tipping trailers designed for optimal payload and range.
These trucks not only reduce emissions but also bring enhanced operational efficiencies such as quieter operation and faster acceleration.
Dave Rose, Founder and CEO of Voltloader, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with ADM, noting the project as a significant step toward transforming the logistics industry to a more sustainable model.
The program showcases the electric trucks’ effectiveness across multiple logistics phases, from milling to customer delivery, demonstrating their reliability in real-world operations.
Jacksons Bakery, one of ADM’s key customers and part of the William Jackson Food Group, welcomed the electric fleet expansion, recognizing its alignment with their sustainability goals and its contribution to receiving high-quality flour in a more environmentally friendly manner.
ADM’s expansion of its electric truck fleet in the UK highlights the company’s proactive approach to integrating innovative, green technologies in its operations, supporting cleaner logistics, and advancing sustainability in the food industry supply chain.
