€53m flop or not? RB Leipzig sign Werner from Chelsea – “Happy to be back”

The striker will join on a permanent transfer worth an initial €20 million, plus performance-based add-ons that could see the deal grow to €30 million.

Chelsea striker Timo Werner has completed his transfer to RB Leipzig. The striker initially confirmed his Chelsea departure on Tuesday afternoon. Soon after, Leipzig also confirmed. The striker will join on a permanent transfer worth an initial €20 million, plus performance-based add-ons that could see the deal grow to €30 million. Werner has signed a contract until 2026.

This means the striker, who remains RB Leipzig’s second most expensive sale ever, could return as the club’s record transfer fee, surpassing the €29.75m the club spent on Naby Keita in 2016 and more than the €22.2m they spent on Werner when they signed him the first time from Stuttgart in 2016, once all bonuses are met.
